A new day

Maxine took us around the local area to help us get some bearings for when we venture out in the car. We stopped at St. Helier's Bay for a drink and phoned Helen who works at the First National Bank, just around the corner from where we were. She came to join us when she finished work. I tried to get some money from the ATM's at 3 different banks but none would work. I had this problem in Canada two years ago, bloody nuisance as I have informed Barclays of our locations and dates so that this wouldn't happen. Couldn't even pay for the things we later bought at the supermarket for tonights party. I later managed to phone Barclays and they said that were only aware of us visiting Australia and Singapore, anyway, they assure me the problem is solved, I will see later on when I try to get some money.
Kenny and Helen joined us at Darren and Maxine's and along with Harry, Brenda and Vernon, we had a very pleasant meal and enjoyable evening.

I was up at 8.30am and tried to phone Dad but no reply. Phoned Lucy who say's he is home, she will contact him to make sure he's OK. As I write this, it is 10.20am and Kath is still snoring. Not sure what is on the agenda for today other than we are all going round to Kenny & Helen's tonight for a meal.

The view from the lounge over Bucklands Bay is quite spectacular and there is quite a strong wind today though it is pleasantly warm. One minute it is sunny and hot, the next it is raining.

  1. Had the same problem getting money from the machines when we were in NZ. It was a real nuisance. When we got home, I complained to the bank and they could not understand why I had such a hassle. They said to check with any of the symbols on the card and use a machine with those symbols. Sounds simple enough, somehow I don't think it's that easy...but, I could be wrong.

  3. Hi Andy and Kath..I'm enjoying reading your blog. Sounds like the trip of a lifetime. New Zealand is so beautiful. Lucky you, it's summer in the southern hemisphere and I'm sure that you are happy to be away from the snow in England. I hear that the rain continues in Los Angeles and there is widespread flooding. At least you had one good afternoon. I look forward to reading more....Geraldine
